9 DIY Projects Worth Trying this Summer
Looking for a simple project or two that can fill up your weekend? Creative projects of any kind are a great way to switch off your mind and have some fun. So whether you’re feeling bored or just want to get creative, we’ve compiled a few of our favourite DIY projects that are worth trying this summer. Here are some ideas to get you inspired this season.
Create a Faux Headboard for Your Bed
If you’ve been searching for a simple way to spruce up your bedroom, a faux headboard might just be the thing it needs. This is one of the easiest ways to add a bit more colour and personality to the space, plus it doesn’t add any physical depth to your bed, so it won’t need to be pushed further away from the wall.
Creating a faux headboard is easy. If you have a can of paint left over, put it to use and create a semi-circle on the wall behind your bed. Make sure to measure the wall and use a nail to pinpoint the center. Trace out your semi-circle using painter’s tape and use a small paintbrush to draw the outline first. Then, fill it in and leave it to dry. If you prefer a rectangular shape, then use that instead!
Repurpose Old Furniture
Got an old dresser that you want to get rid of? You can easily repurpose it and make use of it somewhere else. One popular idea is to use it on your balcony as a makeshift outdoor bar or a home for additional plants (because you can never have too many)! A simple coat of paint can go a long way in reviving any old piece of furniture. You can also use sandpaper to create a distressed, vintage look instead.
Upcycled Planters
Speaking of plants, another fun DIY project to add to your list this summer is repurposing old items and transforming them into planters. There are so many things that can be used for this including an old chest of drawers, a bicycle with a basket, vintage tin cans, mason jars and even old wellington boots. Add a colourful coat of paint to make these funky new planters even more eye-catching.
Make a Macrame Plant Hanger
You could add more greenery inside your home by making your own macrame plant hangers. It’s a simple project that you can do on your own, and there are tons of helpful online tutorials that will walk you through it, step by step.
Make a Pallet Bed
If you have some good woodworking skills and are in need of a bed frame, make your own wooden pallet bed. These are very bohemian, minimalistic, and perfect for dedicating a weekend to crafting up something that’s visually appealing and functional.
Turn a Wooden Crate into a Side Table
Make your own little side table to set up next to the bed, or place it anywhere to store books or display knick-nacks. All you need is an old crate that you can stain. Simply screw it onto hairpin legs, and you’re done!
