Discover Burlington’s Hidden Gems

When people think of Burlington, they often think of the Royal Botanical Gardens, the Brant House, Spencer Smith Park, and the stunning waterfront. But there’s so much more to see and do in Burlington than visiting the typical landmarks. If you’re new to the area or just planning a visit, take some time to discover some of Burlington’s hidden gems that are local favourites.

Mount Nemo

If you love to rock climb, Burlington has one of the best places to scale and take in the views. But don’t worry if you’ve never climbed before, there are stunning walking trails all throughout this area if you prefer to hike instead.

Bruce Trail

Speaking of hiking, the Bruce Trail passes right through Burlington, giving tourists and residents ample opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. The trail also runs right along the edge of the Niagara Escarpment.

Discovery Landing Ice Rink

Burlington also has its own ice rink with incredible views of Lake Ontario. Right downtown you’ll find the Discovery Building that sits right across from the lake, featuring a 3,000 square meter pond that turns into a skating rink come winter. It’s also the perfect spot to also check out the Festival of Lights that takes place right there at the Spencer Smith Park from the end of November through the first week of January.

Emma’s Back Porch

If you’re looking for a patio to relax on that provides dazzling views of the lake, Emma’s is the place to go. This cute cottage style bar is one of those hidden gems that all the locals still frequent. Besides the picturesque setting, they also feature an impressive live music lineup, tasty food, themed events, and hockey night specials.

The Golf & Country Clubs

Not many people realize that Burlington has a number of exceptional golf courses with lush, pristine landscapes. The five most prestigious are the Burlington Golf & Country Club, the Crosswinds Golf & Country Club, the Indian Wells Golf Club, the Tyandaga Golf Course, and the Hidden Lake Golf Club. Just enough courses to get into the real swing of things.

Easterbrook’s

This local favourite hot dog joint has been serving up the best footlongs for over 85 years. Decked out in classic diner décor, this place has an incredible atmosphere and some of the best hotdogs in the world. Once a tea house in the early ’20s, Easterbrook’s soon took to selling hotdogs, hamburgers, and ice cream and they’ve never looked back – and we’re all happy they didn’t. It’s open all year long!

Beachway Park

Another hidden gem that’s worth a visit in the summer is the Beachway Park. Here you can rent kayaks and paddleboards and take them to the lake. There’s also an outdoor pavilion, playground for the kids, and a nice patch of clean sand to relax and enjoy the views.
